MELANIE and JACOB SCEARCE and EMILY BERGER, assisted by youth leader MICHAEL HENDERSON led worship for us yesterday as Laurel celebrated our youth. Emily Berger graced us with a lovely rendition of “His Eye Is on the Sparrow” accompanied by David Clatterbuck. Both Emily and Melanie, our two high schools seniors, delivered heart-felt appreciations for Laurel Church, the youth group and its leaders. Covenant Pastor Mark Sprowl leading a time of prayer noted that one of the high points of his first service to Laurel as interim pastor was leading the confirmation class that included Melanie and Emily. He commended the Laurel congregation for its support of its youth through the years, believing that “it takes a church” to nurture our young in the faith and claiming that the congregation can be proud of its youth and young adults as they’ve scattered to live out lives modeled on Jesus Christ in the world. Melanie and Emily also received gifts from the congregation as we blessed them at this special time of transition.
