Mission and Service

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?
Then said I, Here am I; send me.
– Isaiah 6:8

There are so many desperate needs in our world today. We have only to step outside of our door to find within our community individuals and families who are hungry, homeless and hurting. Willingly the people of Laurel give their time and resources to help.

Each year at Thanksgiving and Christmas we brighten the lives of our neighbors by providing food for families that would otherwise be without. At Christmas we share our blessings with those families by playing Santa to bring them specific gift requests. It brings joy to each giver to know that their gift is going to bring a smile to a young face or help put food on their table.

Within our community we volunteer at Lambs Basket, a Henrico County food distribution center, and we participate with the Walk-In Ministry program, serving lunches for up to 180 homeless people.  From time to time, a group from Laurel cleans up yards at private homes where owners are not able to do so through Project:Homes.

Outside of our community we fill shoeboxes each Christmas with school and hygiene items to be distributed around the world through Samaritan’s Purse.  We offer financial support to Cindy Corell, a Presbyterian missionary in Haiti.  We also work locally to provide supplies and friendship for the Virginia Randolph Educational Center which seeks to meet the needs of children with special needs.

Helping to ease the burden of our brothers and sisters, Laurel Church reaches out to bring Christ to the center of their lives.
