Laurel Church has been serving our community for over 100 years and plays a vital role in a faith denomination that represents two centuries of sharing the love of Jesus Christ across the world, and yet we understand the importance of discovering God’s new word for us today!
Our congregation recently participated in program of discernment seeking – through Bible study, small group discussion and learning the needs of our neighborhood – to understand God’s gracious will for us at this place and time. Through that process we developed a vision statement that’s helping to set a new tone at the church: “Knowing and loving our neighbors as Christ loves us and together discovering abundant life in him.”
Bringing this vision to reality involves both preparation and then boldly moving out beyond the doors of the church. To this end, our community life as disciples encompasses four areas: worship, learning, service and fellowship. We worship God together weekly and on special occasions. We learn together in Bible studies, small groups, and through our personal faith disciplines. We serve God and our neighbors together in caring for the least in our society and proclaiming the Good News of salvation in Jesus Christ in word and deed. And last, but not least, we come together regularly for fellowship, mutual support and fun!
If you’re looking for a place to start growing into the person God made you to be, then we invite you to join us here at Laurel. If you are looking to join a church that can help you stretch the faith you already have, then we offer you a place at the table where others are seeking the same goal. Be a part of God’s amazing grace and experience a community of people – the church! – committed to living with Jesus at the center.
Laurel is also a community of faith that is committing to welcoming and respecting all God’s children, celebrating the great diversity of human life and condition.
If you have any questions at all – about Jesus and what it means to be a Christian, about joining Laurel and participating in its mission, or about something on your mind that you need to share with someone – please feel free to contact me. My door is always open, and I’d love to chat!
