Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?
Then said I, Here am I; send me. – Isaiah 6:8
There are so many desperate needs in our world today. We have only to step outside of our door to find within our community individuals and families who are hungry, homeless and hurting. Willingly the people of Laurel give their time and resources to help.
Each year at Thanksgiving and Christmas we brighten the lives of our neighbors by providing food for families in need in the community and Virginia Randolph School families. In December we share our blessings with the children at Coal Pit Learning Center and bring them gifts to open at Christmas time. It brings joy to each giver to know that their gift is going to bring a smile to a young face or help put food on their table. This year we held a Trunk or Treat in October for the children/families of the surrounding communities. It was a great way to connect to the younger families in the area and was LOTS of fun! We plan to do it again next year.
Within our community we collect food for the LAMB’s Basket, a Henrico County food distribution center, we have a school supply drive in August for the young people at Virginia Randolph School, we also collect pantry items for the families at Safe Harbor Shelter in Richmond at various times throughout the year. We have made Car Care Kits of toiletries and snacks and water to pass out to the homeless members of our community. This year we plan to begin reading to the children at GingerBread Cottage preschool, which is housed at our church. Also, from time to time we bring lunch to our local law enforcement men and women to show our appreciation for their bravery and hard work.
Outside of our community, we offer financial support to Cindy Corell, a Presbyterian missionary. We also support the Good Samaritan Offering and Five Cents a Meal Offering each month and the four Special Yearly Offerings through our Presbytery.
Helping to ease the burden of our brothers and sisters, Laurel Church reaches out to bring Christ to the center of their lives.
